本教材专门为泰国小学生设计，适合1～6年级小学生课堂使用。课本内容与泰国小学生实际生活相联系，生动活泼，注重培养学生在情景中学习汉语的兴趣和汉语交际能力。配套练习丰富有趣，在训练言语技能的同时，使孩子的思维能力得到发展。 全套教材共12册，每册分课本和练习册，并配有CD 1盘。每册8课，每课包括课文、生词、扩展、学儿歌（或学古诗）部分。学完本套教材，学生将掌握800个左右汉语生词。
Open Sesame Chinese series is specially designed for Thai children to learn Chinese. Altogether there are 12 volumes, each of which includes one textbook, one exercise book, one CD and one teacher’s book. Taking into consideration of real situations and characteristics of Thai children, it provides vivid and interesting content, helping children start off in their Chinese learning in a happy mood. Meanwhile it puts emphasis on the cultivation of students’ communication ability and interest in learning Chinese in real conditions.After three years of editing, trial use, and publication, the Open Sesame Chinese series has proved in the practice an excellent Chinese textbook series. Back in 2003, as requested by the Thailand Ministry of Education, TCFL professors from Yunnan University complied Chinese Textbooks for Primary Schools in Thailand (Trial) (6 volumes) which, during several years of use, has received very positive feedbacks. So in 2006, the brand-new series Open Sesame Chinese came out based on the redesign and modification to the trial version. Features of Open Sesame Chinese series: 1. Altogether there are 12 lessons for the six grades in the primary school (1 volume for each term), enabling the progressive and inspiring learning of Chinese for the young learners.2. It is completely localized, with all the content annotated in Thai, and the person and places from Thailand, which makes it close to the students. 3. The textbooks are four-color printed and illustrated with beautiful pictures, taking full consideration of children’s lively and active nature.For each lesson there are three sections: Text (short articles or dialogues), New Words, Exercises (Read It, Learn Words through Pictures, Children’s Song, Ancient Poems, Songs, Riddles, etc. ), stimulating the students’ interests in learning Chinese using as many methods as possible. 4. The workbook is two-color printed, with the content closely coherent with the textbook. It includes items like Read It, Match, Filling-in-blanks, Complete Dialogues, Translation, Character Writing, etc., which help students to review what have learnt. 5. Besides the new words in the Text, there is Learning Words through Pictures, helping the students to enlarge their vocabulary through vivid pictures reinforcing the memory. At present volumes 1 to 4 have been published; Volume 5 & 6 will be published in the first two seasons in 2007; and the other volumes are going to be published soon.
